Just a quick time-lapse video of the recycled planters being put in place ready for the lettuce, courgettes, rocket, carrots, peppers and tomatoes. We've managed to double the planting area and link it to the irrigation already in place. All wood was skip salvaged (ex decking boards). Cost nothing ;)

I managed to germinate a banana from seed by sanding it and then putting the seed in a plastic bag with damp compost and placed in a warm airing cupboard checking every few days for germination.

Thank you for posting this video! Your tips/advice are helpful and straight to the point. I know it has been several years, but have your Musa acuminata plants kept on and produced fruit? I'm wanting to give the Musa acuminata a go, but I live in the Northern Midwest of the States. The plant would have to be kept indoors, and the height of 6-10ft tall is a bit daunting (as well as the full lighting needs).

Bananas all produce corms which can be stored dry in coolish temperatures during your winters. Just like cannas, gladiolas, dahlias, etc. No sunlight or moisture. Simply cut the tall plant back, and let the corm and the stalk dry out naturally before bringing it in for winter. Trim roots as they will not last the winter and in Spring new roots re-grow quickly. Keep dry during the winter months. Like most herbaceous perennials, it stores well and can be replanted in late spring/early summer after the danger of frost has passed. These corms hold a lot of water and will not die during forced winter storage. Dig them up before the first killing frost, let them dry, and remove soil from around the corms as it contains moisture and bacteria. Well-established banana plants can take a lot of abuse and come through just fine. Do not wrap with peat. Allow fresh air to circulate around dormant corms and you will be good to go at planting time! Contrary to popular belief, bananas are quite drought tolerant, but love lots of water during the outside growing season. They are heavy feeders and Miracle-Gro is one of the best commercially available fertilizers with an NPK of 15-30-15. Nitrogen aids in fast green growth, and Phosphorus aids in the development of fruit and flower as well as root growth. Potassium (also known as Potash) assists in strong cellular growth such as in the chloroplasts which produce energy from sunlight aiding in the process of photosynthesis. If you have access to rotted/aged chicken manure, that stuff is MAGIC! Best of luck!

Your plants are beautiful...I am hoping to grow some ornamental bananas from sed...I have read that you can slightly abrade the seed, such as against some sand paper but it cannot be too deeply abraded... to help it germinate faster as well...I believe that is done before the soak. Thank you for this video!
